Day 2 | web2.0 EXPO | DIY UX Give Your Users an Upgrade

SUMMARY:
Launching and finding a good product for the web is no longer good enough. Users demand and expect good experiences. If you don’t have certain functions, they want to know why, and if you plan on addressing issues. This may mean taking a step back and really trying to identify how users are interacting with your brand. Yes, companies pay a pretty penny for these type of professionals/consultants to tell them what is going wrong. Well web tools and open resources are bringing that to our fingertips. We just need to take the first steps to learning the tools and then implementing. A truly great example is a Google Website Optimizer. This allows you to identify the hot spots users are clicking on the page and view certain pages on your site to get stats. So you can find out what colors, size, and words users are responding to.

Some great findings:

  • Review and Understand your traffic logs. This is precious data usually overlooked.
  • Log Requests, you may find that alot of users are asking for the same changes or newer functionality
  • Circle back to users!
  • Usability Testing is a must, and its always best to do it in person
